A Reylo fandom rant
Feb. 6th, 2019 11:05 amOkay, I saw some wank on my dash today and I thought that I have enough.
---
No matter what some Reylo shippers will claim, I’m not going to forget that entire duel wank started because some other people simply didn’t want to see for another time, how Kylo is being beaten up by a Rey again, not because we wanted to see a male-being-the-embodiment-of-all-males-who-have-ever-existed beating up a strong-female-character-tm-being-the-embodiment-of-all-females-who-have-ever-existed.
Many Reylo shippers - including me - identify more with Kylo due to various reasons (mostly connected with mental health, relations with parents etc.), we pity him at the end of TLJ, when he feels completely broken and humilated, and we won’t cheer for Rey defeating him once again only because she's a female, while he'a a male - and tbh, some of takes about Rey defeating him in Ep. IX sound for me a bit like strawman "Yay, girl power, down with the patriarchy" arguments. I hate the usage of such rhetoric in depictions of Rey-Kylo dynamics, no matter if it's used by the antis or not.
People are people - we're all different, all our experiences vary, and gender is only one of many factors defining us. Insisting that someone has to identify more with a character A of the same gender than with a character B of the other gender only because they have the same gender as character A + the character A is morally good, or then that person is a misogynist/misandrist, is fruitless.
And BTW - if attacking Reylo is misogynist, because the majority of Tumblr shippers are females, who emphasise how this ship is made for the female gaze, then according to the same logic attacking the anti-reylos is misogynist too, because the majority of Tumblr antis are females, who emphasise how this ship may be perceived awfully by some females. If you’ll go to YouTube or some other sites, you’ll see that males are divided by Reylo as well - there are both fans and antifans of it. It’s not as binary as a certain section of Reylo fandom on Tumblr likes to claim.
